HARRY SMYTH is a multi-award-winning writer & head of development with one foot in scripted drama and the other in documentary. He has developed an impressive list of unscripted one-offs and series for major broadcasters such as BBC, Channel 4, Sky and many more. His work includes the acclaimed 'Stacey Dooley: Stalkers’ for BBC 1&3, which was one of BBC 3’s most watched documentaries that year - and the BAFTA-winning 'The Jury: Murder Trial' for Channel 4, a true crime experiment which has garnered stellar reviews, has been renewed for a second series, received a Broadcast Award for Best Original Programme, and has fast become the channel’s highest-rating launch of the last decade. Harry’s development work accounts for over 60 hours of broadcast content.

In the world of scripted, Harry’s innovative crime-drama script ‘Coldline’ made the 2018 Official LondonTVPitchbox Selection at Raindance Film Festival and was later in development at BAFTA-nominated Salon Pictures. His follow-up script, courtroom-drama ‘Until Proven’, made the 2021 Pitchbox Official Selection. He was chosen ahead of 5,000 other writers for the BBC Writersroom Voices 2023 scripted development programme and has worked on funded scripted developments for the likes of HBO and Tall Story.

Harry also developed and wrote ‘Fantomet Philip’ for Norwegian state broadcaster NRK, a major 4-part documentary-meets-scripted hybrid true-crime series chronicling the stranger than fiction story of Scandinavia’s most elusive conman. Released in May 2025, the series is a ratings smash-hit and was the most-watched show in Norway on release.
