Matthys Boshoff

Matthys Boshoff is a two time SAFTA nominated writer and director. He co-wrote and directed his debut feature film, The Story of Rachel de Beer, which earned 7 SAFTA nominations and 3 wins. It also received the Grand Prize for Best Film at KidsEye International Film Festival and screened in competition at Rhode Island and San Diego IFF. After a successful theatrical run in South Africa the film found homes with eminent distributors and platforms around the globe including ITN, HBO, Amazon, Encrypta, Showmax and Netflix.

His short film, Flesh of my flesh, screened at over 30 international film festivals, including 5 Oscar and BAFTA qualifiers. It had its European premiere in competition at Clermont-Ferrand and was nominated for a SAFTA. Malina Saval, features editor for Variety, wrote:

"I was simply blown away by its beauty, depth and unflinching commitment to exposing the realities of life with disability. The film absolutely crushed me. It destroyed me, it was so beautifully done"

Matthys is currently finalising funding for his next feature, Vlees van my vlees, after it received production finance from both South Africa's National Fund and the Dutch Film Fund. The project was selected for Realness, a Pan-African screenwriter's residency, won the Norwegian Sørfond prize at DFM 2020 and was selected to participate in La Fabrique Cinéma de L'Institut Français in association with Les Cinemas du Monde and the Cannes Film Festival and Market 2021.

His commercials and branded content have won shiny little statues at OneShow, Cannes, LIA and took home both the Loeries Film and Creative Effectivity Grands Prix. When not indulging in all things film, Matthys juggles his time between doing an Executive MBA through the Berlin School for Creative Leadership and pursuing his love for adventure.
